What methods are there for allergy testing?

Skin tests are the most effective and cost-effective choice to diagnose allergies; they're quicker and more dependable than a blood test. However, a blood test is your best option if you have sensitive skin that cannot bear a patch test.

Blood tests: To conduct a blood allergy test, we only need to take a small sample of your blood that'll be analyzed. By measuring the presence of antibodies in the sample, we will have an accurate understanding of what allergens you may be sensitive to or allergic to.

Skin tests: By administering a skin allergy test, medical professionals can identify potential allergens by applying small amounts of the suspected allergen onto or beneath the patient's skin to observe any resulting reaction.

What allergies can be found through testing?

At our Aventura office, we take allergy testing to the next level - screening for a broad range of environmental triggers. From pollen and weeds to mold, pet dander, and dust; even insect stings can be detected. Food allergens and drug allergen testing are also available.

What to expect during a blood allergy test?

To detect whether you have an allergy or not, a blood test is necessary. This includes drawing a small sample of your blood and sending it off to be analyzed in the lab for any antibodies associated with allergies or asthma. The most preferred method used by many medical practitioners is called enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Through this process, elevated levels of Immunoglobulin E can be identified which means that someone may suffer from certain allergic reactions.

What happens during skin allergy testing?

When you arrive, at SFENTA's Aventura office for your skin allergy testing, here is what you can expect:

  • Your test site will be swiftly and thoroughly cleansed.
  • Then, a few drops of potential allergens will be applied to the chosen area (which may be your back or arm).
  • Next, a needle-like tool is used to create tiny punctures so that each allergen has permission to enter beneath the surface – we might also inject them directly into the skin if needed.
  • After 15 minutes, our staff members evaluate it for any redness, itchiness, and other reactions.
