When to See Your Audiologist
Make your appointment at South Florida ENT Associates as soon as possible if you or a loved one is experiencing:
- New or sudden hearing loss
- Hearing loss is getting noticeably worse
- Sudden and/or unexplained pain in the ears
- Tinnitus (a persistent ringing in the ears when no external sound is present)
- Balance issues, dizziness, or symptoms of vertigo
Know the Signs of Hearing Loss
- Do you often turn the up volume on the TV, radio, or stereo very high?
- Do you find it difficult to fully hear and follow conversations in loud places and/or crowded places?
- Do you often need to ask others to repeat themselves over and over?
- Do you find yourself raising your voice during conversations?

Your Hearing Evaluation: A Series of Painless Tests
Tests and procedures your audiologist may perform during your hearing evaluation include:
Otoscopy: Your doctor checks your ear canal for obstructions that could be blocking your hearing – including simple ear wax.
Pure Tone: This is a test that measures hearing levels in each ear.
Speech Discrimination: This test measures your ability to hear and understand speech.
Bone Conduction: With this test, your audiologist measures the way the small bones in your inner ears respond to sounds.
Tympanometry: A test to measure the movement of your eardrums.
