What are the methods for allergy testing?

Allergy tests can be conducted in two ways - through a blood test or skin test. During the former, we draw only a tiny sample of your blood to identify antibodies indicating an allergy. At the same time, for the latter, potential allergens are placed on or beneath your skin and monitored to observe if any reactions arise.

Am I a good candidate for allergy testing?

If you are suffering from persistent allergy symptoms, such as skin reactions like rashes or hives, runny nose, congestion, sneezing, and coughing, then considering an allergy test may be the right choice for you. Our practitioners will evaluate your case to determine whether allergy testing is a good fit for your situation or if another treatment option could be more suitable.

What is the process for blood allergy tests?

Blood allergy testing can offer invaluable insight. The test requires a small quantity of blood to be drawn and sent to the laboratory for analysis. During this time, immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels are evaluated – higher IgE values often suggest an individual suffers from either allergic or asthmatic reactions. In most cases, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is used in this type of testing, offering accurate results that will help determine what potentially triggers your allergies.

What is the process for a skin allergy test?

    • We will begin by disinfecting your chosen site (back or arm).
    • Next, we apply tiny droplets of potential allergens directly onto your skin's surface.
    • Once those have been applied, a needle is used to prick and penetrate each allergen beneath the skin - alternatively, it may be injected directly into the test site.
    • After 15 minutes, we evaluate any signs of redness/itching present on the treated area - this will help us determine which substances caused an allergic reaction.
